Class 1 Cabooses , 4 wheel, Nos. 1-88

Our Quick Pic Book series shows the subjects in extensive black & white photographs which have often been digitally edited to best exhibit the details.

Caboose 49 is one of just two of this class still existing, the other is
Silverton Northern Caboose number 1005 (which is an ex-D&RG Caboose)
currently a hulk with an ongoing fundraising campaign by the San Juan County Historical Society to restore it to the shape that 49 is in but it was never
rebuilt to a D&RGW Class 4 car so it is actually more original and provided
the restorers much valuable data. Caboose 49 is one of the original cabooses
built for the Denver & Rio Grande but during its operational lifetime it was
rebuilt into an 8 wheel caboose as a class 4 caboose. The only surviving rebuilt
from a Class 1 to 4 is 0524, the subject of our DRGW Class 4 Quick Pic Book.
