C-16 Class Locomotive number 268
Our Quick Pic Book series shows the subjects in extensive black & white photographs which have often been digitally edited to best exhibit the details.
The C-16 Class locomotives were the main power across the D&RG through the latter part of the 19th century with the majority of tonnage hauled until the K-27's appeared in 1903. They were made in a number of different orders/batches. Some came from Grandt and others from Baldwin. As built the locos could be told apart
by manufacturer pretty easily but after a few shoppings the things such as domes, cabs and assorted accessories were so intermixed that they were intrerchangable. This book focuses on #268 which has the appearance of a Baldwin loco and in fact
is but the tender is not the original one as can be told by how the tank fits on it.
